Free surgeries on poor kids at OCHRI today

Nagpur: After performing free of cost cochlear implant surgeries on 25 children from the city, Project Geeta, initiated by Orange City Hospital and Research Institute (OCHRI), also plans to cater to children with hearing disabilities from the state. Padmashree recipient Dr Milind Kirtane visits the city every alternate month and performs the surgeries. Ten more surgeries have been scheduled on Sunday.

The project, which was sponsored by chief minister and Tata Trusts, has been running since seven months. The project has confirmed surgeries of 60 children. To reach the target, more 25 surgeries will be performed till February 2017. Most families of such pediatric patients come from slums and cannot afford this surgery, which can cost up to Rs7.5 lakh.
